Don't Be Fooled by Labour-Plaid False Promises Over Ebbw valley Railway.

12.00.00am GMT Wed 3rd Dec 2008

Mike German, leader of the Welsh Liberal Democrats, today warned that the Labour-Plaid Government is misleading the people of South Wales East over the opening of services on the Ebbw Vale link to Newport. On Tuesday, Transport Minister, Ieuan Wyn Jones, made a statement to the National Assembly stating that the rail link was "high priority", however he failed to commit to any further funding to make the link to Newport a reality.

Mike German, Welsh Liberal Democrat AM for South Wales East said: "I find it shocking that the Transport Minister has the gall to say that the Ebbw Vale and Newport rail link is a "high priority" for him when he cannot even guarantee to commit the extra £10 million needed to provide a regular service between these economic hubs of South East Wales.

"The Labour-Plaid Government needs to give the commitment to the hard working people of South East Wales now so that the services are guaranteed once the lines are in place.

"Government dithering over services on the line could further slow down the process of getting commuters onto trains between Newport and Ebbw Vale. The people deserve better.

"Invest in the future of South Wales East now, and help get the region back on track".
