Following the news that Newport Shopmobility is facing funding problems, local AM Michael German called for donations to help keep the scheme afloat.

"I visited Newport Shopmobility earlier this year and they do a great job. They provide a much-needed service for elderly and disabled people and right now they need more funding to carry on their excellent work.

"The team rely on donations, and right now they are badly needed. The boiler and heating systems are broken, which will cost at least £1,500 to repair. I am exploring grant possibilities but I know that they would be grateful for any help available right now."

Welsh Liberal Democrat AM Mike met with the Newport Chairman Bill Yates and Secretary Peter Wivell to discuss how the service works and how to improve funding opportunities. Currently the council provide a grant under the Service-Level Agreement for the shop lease and staff wages, but the cost of buying and maintaining equipment comes from badly-needed donations.
