Local AM Mike German visited Newport Shopmobility last Friday to discuss solutions to their recent funding problems. The service provides a lifeline for many people with mobility problems in and around Newport, allowing them to get around town with the help of wheelchairs and scooters.
Mike, said: "Newport Shopmobility do a great job. They provide a much-needed service for elderly and disabled people and I have been meeting with them to work out how they can raise more money to fund their excellent work."

Mike met with the Newport Chairman Bill Yates and Secretary Peter Wivell, to discuss how the service works and how to improve funding opportunities. Currently the council provide a grant under the Service-Level Agreement for the shop lease and staff wages, but the cost of buying and maintaining equipment comes from donations.
