Wentwood Forest purchase celebrated by Mike German
12.00.00am GMT Wed 16th Nov 2005
Welsh Liberal Democrat leader Mike German today congratulated Coed Cadw The Woodland Trust on the successful purchase one of the few remaining broadleaf pockets of Wentwood Forest.
Mike said "Today is a great day for the Trust and the people of South East Wales and I am proud to have been associated with this campaign."
The section was threatened with commercial development but saved thanks to a Coed Cadw campaign backed up by extensive campaigning from Mr German in the National Assembly for Wales.
"There was a real danger that commercial logging would have destroyed this valuable wildlife habitat and left a scar on the landscape of Gwent for generations to come. The Trust's hard work has prevented that from happening," added Mr German.
